The City, Slowed Down

Zara Malik and Lea Hart · students · Paris · 2036

“They hadn’t seen the Louvre. They didn’t mind at all.”

Zara and Lea were twenty-one, on a student rail pass and not much else. Four days in Paris, all on foot.

Their AI companion found them a pod for two above a bakery, cheaper than dinner. The streets had trees where the parking used to be. Driverless shuttles glided past at walking pace for anyone who was tired. They never saw the Louvre, and didn’t mind at all.
